Cheese Balls (Serves: 3-4; Preparation Time: 20 minutes)

A friend's status message on Facebook read - "Why does binge snacking feel so great while you're at it, and so bad the moment you're done!"....Hmmm....I have a different take here; to me,  "If  the snack is good enough, its worth  a  guilt trip and then two" - c'mon guys one can always burn those cals off in the gym, the morning after.

This time around, I am posting recipe of one such sinful snack, which though quite high on calories, is  certainly well worth the guilt trip.

Ingredients
  • 7-8 cheese cubes (I use Amul processed cheese cubes; easily available)
  • 1 medium sized onion; finely chopped
  • A small piece of ginger; grated
  • A bunch of fresh coriander leaves; finely chopped
  • 1-2 green chillies; finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or, to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper powder
  • A pinch of garam masala
  • A few slices of bread
  • Oil (for frying)
Steps
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine grated cheese, the finely chopped onion, ginger, green chillies, coriander and other spices

  • Spread a few slices of bread on a chopping board, cut the edges with a wet knife (wet knife cuts the edges clean without making the bread brittle)

  • Take some water in a shallow vessel, wet a bread slice by dipping in the bowl; then squeeze off the excess water by pressing the slice between your palms

  • Now, spoon in a portion of the filling in the center of the bread slice, fold from the edges into a ball (make sure the filling is completely covered by the bread slice, else it could fritter out while frying)

  • You should be able to make about 9-10 cheese balls with the filling

  • Arrange the balls on a plate and cover with shrink-wrap, refrigerate for 1/2 an hour and then deep fry untill brown (If you're short on time, you could fry them immediately; refrigerating ensures these balls don't break open while frying)
You will love the taste of melted cheese in the "Cheese Balls"; enjoy with ketchup!!
